Unfortunately I can never sleep, I don't trust society enough to close my eyes
I can't even take a nap with out waking to a negative surprise
And the biggest surprise is nothing is really a surprise anymore
I wasn't even surprised when one of my best friends had his child number four
It’s like the show of life is stuck on a rerun
You already know what's going to happen even before the episode's begun
But yet some people still praise the show
They still crave to know
What they can do to bring all eyes on them
See possession comes from desire to showoff
Who can get sicker than whom with the acquired cough
Whose location is better
The condo or the loft
Which girl has the better ass
The firm or the soft
Who has the better body build
The model or the rapper who scoffed
See you may want these things but you don't really want these things
You only require them because everyone else does
And once you acquire them you forget what once was
And that's quality and value
Just so it could allow you to get higher ratings in the show of life
You can't spend your life only looking out for number one
And you can't spend your life trying to please everyone
Just to raise your fan base
Or so you can see that see you later look on every hater face
I’m just trying to trace back the steps to the pilot episode
So I can see how people have gotten into this narcissistic mode
Because later down the road, whether you believe it or not
The show won't last forever
And you might think you're clever to try and get a spin off
But I wouldn't count on it
See when the show isn't on and you take a look around
Things aren't what they used to be
You don't see the things you used to see
When you stepped up in the public, I call that claim time
Because you said, I’m going to claim mine
But when you fell for the show, I call that game time
And when you got played by an actor or actress, I call that blame time
Because you're pointing fingers at everyone at the same time
Then came time for a drastic rewrite or cancellation
Because you didn't step back to use realistic contemplation
That maybe this isn't all it appears to be
Now I’m not saying don't live it up or go for the best you can get
But don't let the desire for possession consume you
Getting what you got only because it’s hot
Doing what you do only because it’s the new
Because everything hot cools off
And everything new becomes old
You got so concerned with being fresh and having the best
That you don't even get to enjoy these things to which you've been blessed
You become one of those performers that can never let it go
Like a child that isn't given the chance to grow
But anyway ladies and gentlemen
Let’s start the show
