Such a delectable
morsel he was –
all hers
from his hazel souls
to his muck soaked soles
He loved her
Took past
and made it
forget its’ own name
Gave some kind of wonderful to her
everyday –
He smiled
A smile that shook worries to the core
A prince charming kind of essence he bore
Some kind of richness that
didn’t cost a thing
and with her reciprocated love, she
crowned him king
Ingested into her being
his everything
without ever exchanging vows
conventionally
For this was no ordinary thing
They weren’t ordinary lovers
on an ordinary fling
They had happily ever after
foretold in the card’s
Astrologically, their souls
were aligned
But ill-fate would seal the death
of companionship this time
Happily, the reaper unleashed one rabid hound
from his grip
Whispered ‘chow time’
in his ear
and laughed as the animal
viciously bit
Quickly, rabies settled in
Coursed through his veins and maimed him
Spiritless – a jackal’s presence
deranged him
leaving no room for the
sweetness of
the man
Teacake parted sky before
his body lay to rest in God’s hands
Left Janie to mourn the death -
A loss of true love
One that asked for nothing in return
except perhaps reciprocation
He was
some kind of sweet
that kissed the earth
just for her
Leaving in his wake
a reawakening
in her
to
love
** Author's Note ** This one is dedicated to my FAVORITE writer of all time... Miss Zora Neale Hurston...
yes, I loved this...so on point with Zora Neale Hurston..Their Eyes Were Watching God...beautifully done...nothing like spurts of greatness here! Thanks for sharing!
..and Angel you most certainly do her piece justice with this poetic gem... your style also reminds me of Alice Walker's... your phrases and phrasings are like little stories within themselves... "all hers from his hazel souls to his muck soaked soles, he was some kind of sweet.. having kissed eart just for her.... very beautiful wording...(i think i paraphrased that last one)..
