Today, for da first time in MY LIFE i was discriminated against because of my ethnic backgroundz. i'm juss so fuckin hurt n i feel kinda betrayed by a society that has supposedly made so many damn progressionz in eliminating racism. An extremely ignorant associate of mine basically told me that people who date outside thier own race are "sellouts". Being biracial myself, i STRONGLY disagree with that statement. A few hours later, a girl who shares a class with me implied (in no uncertain terms) that a fellow classmate of ours should have spoken to her over me, not because she requested his ear before me, but because she is 'Black' as opposed to 'Mixed'. What does Race or Color have to do with who he wanted to speak to first? NOTHING. Which bringz me to my point...if our country has made so much progress in eliminating racism, why iz it that COLOR, specifically in the BLACK community, is such a dominant issue? And why is it that ethnicity should be an issue we think about when choosing our spouse as opposed to common interests and similar outlookz on life? Don't get me wrong, I dont promote dating outside your race because you want the CHILDREN you will EVENTUALLY create to be beautiful...thatz juss plain ignorance! If that is the case, u should refer to my poem 'Beauty' and look at my poem called 'Colors'. Maybe u will receive some insight into my mind on that issue...Beauty is not physical, itz not even tangible. And bein mixed aint alwayz easy on da emotionz! Anyway, tell me this GS, can we all ColorBlind ourselves for tha simple sake of poetry at least? Or will we continue to let Society's twisted viewz Blind us to tha Beauty of people's physical differences?
