"An Aspect of Life"
  by mathiasthom

watching its helpless frame,
cowering in pain,
at the bottom of its cage

I see its eyes,
locked onto mine,
trying to make its last moments
as painless as possible

fresh water and seed,
a thousand unanswered prayers,
but I plead anyway
for a few more moments
with you

friendly and tame,
it'd sing along to whatever
music I was listening to

Now it cannot stay balanced,
falling off its perch,
I feel so helpless,
watching it fade away

I am not even sure,
it'll make it through the night,
resting on a bed of soft tissue,
water by its side

Fluttering in pain,
trying to help it stand upright
this is an aspect of Life,
that I will never get used to...
