A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Hell

My life is cyclical
My self inflicted trials and tribulations
Are of epic proportions
Approaching biblical

I sit in church waiting for the Lord’s word
Hoping over the past week’s sins
It will be heard

I didn’t gossip, but was a sounding board for it
I admit I adore it
When I should abhor it

I didn’t lie, but wasn’t completely honest
Didn’t cause trouble, but didn’t walk away from the mess
Didn’t like how they sat around
Talking about Sister So and So or her dress
Didn’t speak up to convict or correct them
Cause I didn’t want the stress

Didn’t they say, “Want a find a good man? Go to Church!”
I didn’t find that man
Instead found another that would never leave me in a lurch
Didn’t find one, but three
The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost
I can brag and I will boast
I was lost
They found me
So in hell I will not roast
Closer than a brother
More than a sister father or mother
I know I am loved the most

Now I shout for joy, not from anger or pain
Now I pray in thanksgiving no longer for show or in vain
Now to anyone who will listen
I have a story to tell about
A funny thing that happened on my way to hell
